Care & safety

WARNING — To prevent fire and serious injury

  • Burn candle within sight.
  • Keep away from things that catch fire.
  • Keep away from children and pets.

Burning your candle

  • Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before every burn. A long wick smokes and leaves soot.
  • The first burn sets the memory. Let the wax pool reach the edge, usually two to three hours.
  • Never burn longer than four hours at a time.
  • Stop burning when about 1/2 inch of wax is left in the vessel.
  • Burn on a heat-safe surface, away from drafts, curtains and anything that can catch.

Caring for your soap

  • Keep the bar on a draining dish. Sitting in water is what makes handmade soap disappear early.
  • Let it dry fully between uses and it will last noticeably longer.
  • Store spare bars unwrapped somewhere dry. They keep curing and get harder.

Concrete pieces

  • Concrete is porous. Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth, no soaking and no harsh cleaners.
  • Gold leaf is applied by hand. Don't scrub it.
  • For a vase holding fresh stems, use the glass insert. Water will stain raw concrete.
  • Refill the candle vessels once they're empty. Warm water loosens the last of the wax.
